Sony has made available a new micro PC, Sony VAIO® Micro PC.

This model uses low voltage Core Solo CPU and Windows XP Professional. It has a touch screen (800*600) and a sliding keyboard.

The model deploys Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and even WAN interfaces.

It looks like a good companion for a busy sysadmin who is always on the move. However, the price of this beauty is a bit high reaching approximately 1800 $.

Meanwhile, Motorola has released a new version of 700 G handheld, based on Windows mobile.

$1,800 is actually not high in the ruggedized handheld market. These are devices for different application, and therefore should not be compared to Axims and iPaqs.

It would be nice for the price to drop, but in comparison to the Intermecs and Symbols, this price is appealing. Now… does it hold up as do the Intermecs? that is the question.

Mike, $1800 is actually quite cheap for a range of interfaces and options offered in case of Sony. I would compare it with FlyBook and other micro notebooks.

Admin, I agree - isn’t that what I was saying? “$1,800 is actually not high” - I was speaking to the article that was inferring that the device was a bit spendy.
